Seems like a lot of folks are using a shotgun approach to searching rather than a rifle approach. When I was actively cruising Ebay, my approach was to type in a keyword {Masi,Richard Sachs,etc} and let 'er rip in all categories. This narrowed my offerings to a manageable number of listings {usually less than 20...I get bored easily}. Maybe I was more focused and looking for specific items and not so interested in finding "deals".
