Subject: [CR]Faux Gold-Plating

Someone recently posted a WTB for "gold" components. Awhile ago I acquired a MIJ Raleigh Superbe. The gold-colored frame is really a translucent paint over chrome-plate. Wishing to restore the bike, I spot-painted with Dupli-Color's METALCAST "Orange Anodized" (available at Pep Boys, etc). The results were surprisingly good and entirely satisfactory to me. Other colors are also available. A word of caution with these spray-"paints", the shade and degree of color is directly affected by not only the substrate, but also the thickness of coat(s). So, test before use.
