George Allen et al..A day late response..I had much the same problem building a freshly refurbished frame with a set of low mileage Super Record parts taken off an ebay bike (purchased for the parts). I tried to reuse the Silver Sedisport chain which had been on the bike with the same parts, but a different freewheel (SunTour std. 6 speed new FW). The chain clicked and fought sideways up onto the lower pulley in any but the center gears. The chain had been carefully soak-cleaned and measured OK for wear and the FW was new. I fiddled endlessly with the chainline and the wheel position, etc. with no results. I wrote to the list and was told only that Sedis chains were crap, etc, by the two responses I had (I disagree!). I finally gave up and put a new PC48 chain on and the problem magically disappeared. I threw the Sedis chain away, even though I still think it was OK. 20-20 hindsight makes me think that I overcleaned and under oiled it and that somehow made it less flexible. At that point it had become a matter of exorcism and no longer a logical mechanical challenge. By the way, I always use Sedis or Sachs chains on Regina freewheels and Reginal CX chains on ST freewheels, but never Regina on Regina with 6 speed NR or SR. Also I never use a CXS on anything (now there was a crappy shifting chain)! Pat Lay in Chicago (who knows that Shimano chains shift better, but rejects the knowledge as sacreligeous)
