John

Lou Deeter excellent document only says: possibly England

I can state with authority that Donnington is one of the most loved ales in Gloucestershire. I used to lead (twice) in 1979 and 1980 the "Donnington Pub Wobble" where we visited all 17 Donnington pubs in one day. With licensing hours, geography, alcohol intake, and distance, route planning was an interesting exercise. Starting from Cheltenham, it was a circa 85 mile ride. And in 1980, all bikes were on topic!
