Mike Waite wrote:- Then Saturday when I got home, I would clean it, fit saddle bag and sprint carriers to hold my sprints, then ride our to wherever the digs were. Sunday we raced, then rode to meet the club members who didn't race, either for cafe lunch or tea. Then we all rode home, often a very long way round, and sometimes getting back home well into the evening. Great days, never to be seen again, but always remembered with fondness.

Mike Thanks for the above it could have been me writing the article as it certainly brought back memories. Never to be forgotton times especially as you point out after the Sunday racing then meet up with club members on all day ride , midday dinner and tea had to be pre. booked because of the demand by cycling clubs on the numerous eating places of the era. Monday I was "stone broke "as all my pocket money had been spent over the weekend cycling activities. I have always maintained there is no comparison between the 1950/60's and the club life of today. Membership and team spirit was paramount if you were to a successful club and showing respect to the rules of the sport's governing National Cycling Union . Now 75 years young still involved with bikes of yesteryear and riding one or the other out three times a week ,can't be bad!
Best wishes
