Since lugs and tube sets were available from Chater-Lea, Accles & Pollock and Reynolds, presumably there were many very small frame builders who never made it on to the radar. Cycles turn up occasionally with the name of pre-war bike shops not known as builders. Were they bought in from somebody else or did the shops themselves buy tube sets and have a go? I have a frame made up from a Chater-Lea small tube set which is quite innocent of any identification or number. Tubular chassis for cars seemed to be made round every corner in the fifties; was the same true of bicycles in the twenties and thirties, Hilary?
