I had the same trouble while setting up a small - although somewhat bigger -
1974 Colnago for my wife. Found a brake cable stop for a small mountainbike
that pointed straight forward - no drop. It´s steel. it´s ugly, but it
works. Maybe you could do something like it out of a metal sheet?
