Subject: [CR]Dating Campagnolo Pedals

This mess I've gotten into with having my pedals rebuild brought up a question regarding dating of older Campagnolo pedals. I learned from one of the list contributors that the earliest Campagnolo pedals used an O ring to seal the inboard bearings, but later went to rifling (or whatever you call the treatment) of the pedal axle at a later date rather than continue using the O ring. My pedals were not O ringed. What caught out my mechanic was the dustcap on the end of the pedal though. The pedal set he is going to swap for mine has exactly the same cage with the strap loop, but the outboard dustcap is a smooth round arc. My dustcaps look more like a soup bowl with a deeper center that flares out to the teeth at the edge of the cap, and is a bit smaller in diameter. I have not been able to find that cap in any of the catalogs I've been able to download. Does anyone know anything about the changing shape of these dustcaps, and when one shape changed to another?
