You could ask Ron - he's probably the one who did it.

He still runs a bike shop (or a small chain of shops maybe?) and sells a lot on eBay. Shouldn't be hard to get ahold of. Friendly guy, I have traded emails with him a couple times talking about framebuilding stuff.

To really fair in the transition like this on a new ring, you'll have to take at least a little bit off the crank arm. So unless you're prepared to re-anodize it after, it'll be obvious which part is original and which was done later. Also you'd be wasting all that beautiful work done on the existing inner ring. I'd just leave it & use it as-is.
