Subject: [CR]Hetchins for Sale

Dear list,

On offer is a truly stunning example of the efforts of one of the greatest and most famous makers in England; a Hetchins Magnum Opus. Built in 1995 of Reynolds 753 main tubes and fork blades, the builder incorporated the famous and distinct Hetchins vibrant rear triangle in this frame. The rear triangle, however, is built of Reynolds 531 tubing as to accommodate the curly configuration. The frame measures 20 3/4 inch center to center for the seat tube and 20 ½ inches for the top tube, again measured center to center. This lovely frame is finished in British racing green enamel with a black head tube and multiple black seat tube panels and gold lug lining for the elaborate lugs . She is as originally ordered, with chrome fork tips and dropouts and internal top tube brake cable routing. The finish, although not impeccable, is in very good condition for her age with no dents or dings, and only a few very minor chips, some of which have been infilled by the original owner with a somewhat darker color Jaguar green. A Campagnolo Chorus Ergo 8 speed complete framekit complements this bespoke frame with perfect originality. The particulars include: 170 mm crank arms with a 42/52 tooth chain ring combination, Campagnolo cassette, and Campagnolo dual pivot brakes front and rear. Wheels are Campagnolo small flange 32 hole front and rear hubs built on Mavic Reflex 700C clincher rims laced cross 3 with DT 15 straight gauge spokes. Continental Duraskin tyres add the rubber to the road. The Cinelli handlebar is a “Giro d’Italia” mod. 64 in 42mm width coupled to a Cinelli 11cm. stem. Point of contact for your lower end is a Brooks Professional leather saddle, as you would expect. There are NO pedals are included in this sale. Original correspondence from the importer, World Class Cycles of New York, to the original owner is also included in this sale, along with other miscellaneous collectible Hetchins paperwork. This bicycle has been ridden perhaps a few thousand miles at most, in my opinion, as evidenced by the lack of wear on the drive train. She shifts as new, rides well, and is ready to be enjoyed by her new owner. The base price for a Hetchins Magnum Opus frame from the importer today is $2,075.00. Add the 753 main tubing option ($200.00), chroming of the fork tips ($65.00), chroming on the right hand chainstay and dropouts ($85.00), internal brake cable routing ($50.00) and the frame price is $2,475.00! Please check the importer’s website for these figures:

Add an appropriate Campagnolo gruppo, Cinelli bars and stem, Brook saddle, a chain, cassette, spokes, rims, tyres, and professional labor to mount these components, and surely you will have a very fine machine and will have spent in excess of $4,000.00 for the privilege. I would like to send this fine bicycle to a new home and am asking only $2,150.00 complete. Shipping via Fed Ex ground is at actual cost. Payment via PayPal ( please add 1 ½ % of the sale price, or $32.25, which is ½ the cost of using the convenience of PayPal; as we will share the cost equally), personal check, U.S. Postal Service money order, and cash is accepted. .
