Subject: [CR]Early 70's Raleigh International Headset Stack Height

I have an early 70's International with a headset stack height issue. I am not certain of the exact year, but it is the chrome nervex/silver paint bike. The bike is not original, though most components are close (ie, NR of different year).

The frame is a short one, 20.5in c-t. The headset on it seems to be a NR, with stack height I measure of about 40mm.

There are just about 4 threads for the lockring to grab on without any washers or the important center pull brake hanger. Something is not right. the fork does look right, and does not look cut down.

So the questions are:

1) Was the international always equiped with a NR headset, and would that have always been a 39mm stack height?

2) Could smaller sizes have been equiped with something different?

3) Could Raleigh have made an error with the fork (I see the subject changing to "Was headset, now Raleigh mistakes":)?

4) And it seems that a NR pista, or GS would be my ticket out of the problem as they have a stack height of 33mm or so. Will that indeed work, and does anyone by any chance have one they want to part with? This bike is not pristine, so it does not have to be a show condition headset, just decent.

Its a lot of work, and a full time job, these old bikes.

Thanks in advance Dan Kasha Seattle, Wa
