No it's not absurd because the Sutherland's Manual is a CURRENT professionsl reference, and it's the only one. It's not designed as a historic document or for collectors. Comparing it to your architectural manual is apples and oranges. Doric columns are still used, but swiss threads are not. The Sutherland's Manual can't sell more than a couple hundred copies a year and the people that want them want the NEW information not the old.

With all that said I think the best one is still the Green one (early-90s publication). It was the last year with the internal hub info included and the best spoke length calculator needs for stuff in the classic era. I have a Blue and a Red (sold my Green years ago) left and may pick up a Yellow soon. You can find the earlier ones quite easily on Ebay.
