I am happy to have found this list. I'm including a link to photos of two bikes:

http://homepage.mac.com/simonpj/PhotoAlbum11.html

At the bottom of the page you'll see a montage of pictures of a Holdsworth Cyclone Deluxe, some taken around 1980 when the bike still had its original livery, and one of the bike as it was when I acquired it. I'm planning to return this bike to its original appearance. This is my everyday bike.

The other photos are of a bike that I acquired recently via eBay. Some of you may have seen it. I would welcome any suggestions on how to go about discovering the identity of the frame.

My assumption is that the bike dates from the late 40's or early 50's, and that the frame is of 531 with Nervex Pro lugs. That's about all I know. I think the bike probably came from the London area. The person that I bought it from lives in Clacton-on-Sea in Essex, which made me wonder whether the bike was a Horace Bates from nearby Westcliff on Sea. But I was told by the seller that he bought it in London about fifteen years ago, so the Essex coast connection is probably a red herring.

Where should I look for useful identifying marks on the frame? I imagine that there were quite a few makers who were building 531 frames with Nervex Pro lug sets, so maybe it won't be possible to make a definitive identification.

There is quite a significant dent in the downtube, which is visible in the pictures. Is such damage repairable? And if so how?

All the best,
