Like Mr Cielec I cant tell you where you can buy a tap to recut the stripped threads. I understand that thye are available...so if you manage to find a supplier please put the address on the List as I, for one, would like one.

However turning to the question of separating the crank from the axle..and assuming as you say that you manage to get the fixed cup/axle/crank assembly free from the frame, it is normally a simple matter to knock the axle out of the crank.

I have had this problem more times than I like to think about and have always done as follows: -open the jaws of a strong steel vice just enough to allow the axle to pass between them; - place the fixed cup open-side downwards on the vice jaws. This should result in the inner surface of the crank resting on the upper face of the cup. Ensure that you have removed the bolt securing the crank to the axle; - find a short piece of round, or square bar, preferably of brass, copper, aluminium or even softer mild steel that has an end slightly smaller than the upward facing end of the axle; - place the end of the bar against the end of the axle and give it a brisk tap with a medium to heavy hammer ( I always use a bricklayer's Lump hammer). Normally a couple of sharp taps are enough to dislodge the axle which will fall into the bottom of the vicse jaws.

Good luck with the tapping
