Of course it works, otherwise they would have shot the bikes and not the
rabbits!
These rigs were offered ror sale and people had them to travel like you see.
One could have had a trailer and did all kinds of stuff in those days.
Guess you had to know the train schedule or have better than cowcatcher leg
speed!
The pic was given to me by the father in the shot, but don't recall where it
was. I think it was like you said, in Arizona or California during the '30's
maybe '40s early, judging from the bikes.
The dad in the foto was the gent who sold his store in Redondo Beach, Ca. to
my dad back in '61/2 winter.
After I came out in '60 my dad followed me over a year later and bought the
old shop from him.
The old guy was telling us about his youth when he sold two shipments of
rifles to Pancho Villa during the Mexican Revolution and how he got one
shipment through to Villa, got caught by the Federales with the second,
talked his way free before the Feds shot or jailed him, then, Villa demanded
money or rifles or he Villa would shoot him.
So Mr. Solis got some more rifles to keep his head and then said,"enough of
this, I'm headin' West."
So he came out here and we met him at that time in '61 in his shop.
It was about 4 miles south of my location in Manhattan Beach, Ca, and then
my dad and I had a nice working relationship until he retired in about '74.
I thiught someone was making them in the '70s or so, don't think it was
connected to the Rails to Trails project, though.
Maybe someone has an old mag that might show the ad if I'm remembering
correctly.
