No; the "thick" cups refer to the ones with the rifling. In the late 80s to early 90s there were some thick cups with silicone seals instead of rifling as well, but that's off topic...

The dreaded "Effs": flex and failure. The Ti spindles were much more flexy than the steel spindles, which bothered a lot of people (Stronglight did a better job with their Ti spindles by making them oversize diameter) and they had a reputation for premature failure.

Most people ended up buying their Super Record groups with with steel BBs and pedal spindles for these reasons. Plus it made the group significantly less expensive.
