Last week, I was in Albuquerque for a business meeting. I took the
opportunity to visit my old friend, J.D. Edwards, a former CR listmember. J.D. is
also retired military and had just gotten a job offer at White Sands Missile
Range, where I once worked and had contacts. J.D. showed me his Baylis that he
took delivery of about two or three years ago. I noticed some interesting
features and he told me that Brian had built it with many features from a
Cuevas. J.D. bought my first Cuevas 10 years ago and I've been trying to buy it
back since. J.D. was once a very competitive cyclist, having been an
alternate for the 1980 Olympics that didn't happen for the U.S. team. We had great
discussions about riding the mountains in New Mexico, which I did with gusto
15 years and 65 pounds ago. He gave me a great book as a gift. It is the
"Official Tour de France Centennial 1903-2003, with introduction by Lance
Armstrong, edited by Weidenfeld and Nicolson. My first thought was that this is
one heavy book and I'm going to have to carry it back in my carry-on luggage!
The stories about each and every Tour are great, but the pictures rival
those of Aldo Ross, and that is saying a LOT! I have read many different books
about the tour, but this is the best. If you are looking for a great gift to
give yourself, I highly recommend you do a search to find this book. Lou
