As all us good Francophiles know, the ends of the old French shifter cables were slightly smaller than those for Campy/clone shift levers. Fortunately, the cable ends are soft (lead I think). A few strokes with a file does the trick. Been doing this for decades.

A standard derailleur cable does not fit in the lever. The cable is expecting a pill shaped end with the axis of the pill perpendicular to the cable. I have never seen such a derailleur cable. Is this a standard or readily available item? Or do I file down what I have to fit?

Also, was the Huret Svelto considered a decent derailleur? It was fun to clean and rebuild, as it is so different from anything else I have worked on. I was not expecting BB in the jockey wheels. It seems like it could have been a nice unit back in its day.

Since 650b's seem back in style, I consider this bike to be on-topic. I hope that y'all don't mind the questions.
