Don,

Thanks for outing this auction. I was recently wondering how long it

would be before one of these turned up for sale. John was a good

friend of mine and he hung around my shop in Costa Mesa, CA and asked

me questions and advice as he built a frame for himself, his first.

He made a few frames here and there. I moved from OC to San Marcos

with the Ted Kirkbride co-op in late '79 or early '80. John lived in

Huntington Beach, where he built the Wolf frames. I painted some of

the very early ones; I'm not sure whp painted the one on eBay, but is

on of the later bikes. John was into touring, so most of his work was

on touring bikes. John is still around SoCal, but I haven't heard

from him in a few years.

There can't be very many Wolf frames in existance, so I would call

this a rare California-builder frame.

For the collector of ALL California frames, a Sencak--a minor footnote, but still a footnote. The cable stop for an internal cable on the downtube looks kind of gobby and awkward--not the eye/hand of a master builder. But the fillet brazed tube connections look pretty good. http://ebay.com/<blah> Wheels_W0QQitemZ270002263549QQihZ017QQcategoryZ98084QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewIt em
