In my experience, I would say it is safe and it is indeed very tidy. However....I used the extreme tape. Fortunately I had occasion to try removing the tire from the rim before I had a flat on the road. It took application of a BFS to pry the tire from the rim. No way could I have done this on the road using only finger power. As it is, I carry an old spoon with me now to assist removal of tubies, but I know even that would have been inadequate. YRMV.
