Couldn't this be simply a repainted Colner? The spade was the logo of Colner bikes, Colnagos budget line of bikes in the 70s/80s. Colner bikes have these spade cut outs. They show up regulary (at least in Europe) and look pretty much like Colnagos of the same era, maybe a bit rougher in workmanship. The only really genuine Molteni-Merckx-Colnago I have ever seen with my own eyes has club cutouts only and (unlike the bike oin the auction) extremely well made and filed lugs and fork crown. http://www.ritzelrechner.de/HomepageClassic01/colnago/COLNAGO4.JPG

Ooh here's a juicy one: Colnago track reputedly built for Eddy Merckx

http://ebay.com/<blah>
>From auction description: "Acquired from Cecil Behringer by previous owner. Mr Behringer told him the bike was part of Merckx's hour record attempt, but would say no more" Seller does say it's clearly NOT "the" hour record bike, but may be one of his training bikes for the hour.

Seems to have a road fork (oval blades) but hard to tell from the pictures; might be a track fork drilled for brake. Nice bike even without the Eddy connection (but sure wouldn't be worth the buy-it-now price without said connection)

How many Colnagos have you seen with spade cutouts instead of clubs? Discuss.
