Bob,

I hadn't heard that one, but I'll ask Bruce. We talk frequently. The

element that will certainly have an effect here, although I don't

know how much; is that brazing a lug using brass rod happens around

1750 degrees or so to get menting and penitration, in ideal

conditions. Fillet brazing with the same brass rod takes place around

1450 degrees or thereabouts. It's a significant difference. Also how

the joint cools is very critical. A small fillet with brass may pass.

I think the test involves a rockwell hardness of the steel after

brazing. If it passes the hardness test then it passes the hardness

test. I still think it best to use these materials according to the

manufactures specs. or don't use it at all. Just my opinion.
