Be VERY careful about putting aluminum parts in the dishwasher! I thought that would be a great way to clean a very yucky old crank. It came out clean all right, but the anodizing seemed to be washed right off and the surfaces were discolored (gray, yellow...) I was using Trader Joe's detergent, maybe that matters? (It was a cheap Japanese crank, luckily!)
