Make sure you start overlapping more on the inside once you get to the bend.

"Back in the day" we used to use rim tape for this, but first wrapped the bars with friction tape to provide adhesion. (Not sure if you can still find friction tape these days, since it's been replaced by black vinyl electrical tape.)
