Subject: [CR]Was Le Chemineau, now oiler function

Chris asked, with regards to the Le Chemineau bike,

"And how does the chain oiler work?"

This is the same oiler that were very common in Italy in the 30's and 40's. You put oil into the top of the seat-tube which then dribbles down to the tube by gravity to just above the oiler. The oiler works by a cam-like mechanism. When in the up position (with the spout pointing up) the valve closes. When turned down, the oil drips out slowly. I have never seen an oiler on the rear-side of a seat tube, but I suppose with the front derailleur as seen on the le chemineau, there was no other choice.
