Subject: [CR]I.D. old trackie

This bike belongs to a local family who's grandfather (great grandfather?) raced during the teens and 20's. His name was Robert Gerwing and was out of Southern California, possibly Santa Ana. The bike was put into street duty after his career was over, hence the flipped bars, basket and lock. But then sadly left in poor storage condition for years.

Anybody recognize the brand? Looks fillet brazed? Neat seat-stay arrangment too.

Anybody care to comment on the possibility of restoration? In my opinion it's too far gone to do anything past a mechanical rebuild. And perhaps ride it around town as a fixed gear. Not even sure if that's possible, would probably take months of soaking to just break the post loose, and I'm assuming the bearings and races are all trash. But it might be a fun project (or nightmare). It's my size and I'd like to make an offer on it, but would like to get the advice of some experts, as anything earlier than the 1970's is way out of my knowledge base. Ted, Edward, Bill Curtis, are you out there??

There's no numbers on the bike, but I've taken a dozen photos you can link below.

Any help would be appreciated, Jon Williams Grants Pass OR
