Well, I found the flux and siver solder I have (for steel and carbide) won't work with aluminum. However, there are all kinds of special rods and fluxes out there that will and may contain silver. Perhaps people sometimes call solder that melts somewhere between soft solder and brazing rod "silver solder" even when it contains no silver. Looks like Muggy Weld http://www.muggyweld.com/index2.html has them all, even for pot metal. Obviously, they won't tell you what the composition of the rods and fluxes is.
