In my mid '90 Reynolds catalog each of the tube series is shown with a different sticker, e.g. 531 Super Tourist has a sticker indicating that it is 531ST. I assumed that the real stickers mirrored that. I was hoping that the stickers on some of the list members bikes might give a clue.

I'll start making a dedicated camper for full loaded touring in the not too distant future, perhaps two identical units except for different walls, for some testing/comparison. I'd like to know as much as I can about what the old guys, who actually toured, figured out before I start. Things of interest include:

Were the three main tubes at 10710, or 969 except for a 10710DT? Perhaps 969 all around? Something else?

Chainstays: 8, 9 or 10 wall?

SS?

Blades: There is a lot from which to choose. Thankfully I've gotten past thinking that the stiffest blades (or frames) are best but by the same token I'd hazard a guess that the thinnest aren't the best choice for a dedicated tourer either.

There have been comments in the past about how well some builders adjusted the tubing (wall) mix to tailor frame ride. Details of what they chose for this or that size and application would be a big help.

Thanks for any info that can be provided, John Clay Tallahassee, Florida USA

Standard Reynolds decals don't give a clue to the wall thickness, and neither does the Herse catalog.

I'm afraid you're just going to have to buy one, then saw it in a bunch of pieces to find the various wall thicknesses.

Let us know what you find out!
