There are two quotations related to doping that have been attributed to Anquetil. I couldn't find the original French so I'll have to go from memory here. I'm sure someone out there has the precise wording...

1) You'd have to be an imbecile or an hypocrite to imagine a professional cyclist who rides 235 days a year can hold himself together without amphetamines.

2) The Tour isn't won on Perrier alone.

By the way, there was a post-Tour criterium (I can't remember which one at the moment) which was so well known for doping that it was called soemthing like "Grand Prix Of The Chargers." Chargers being a reference to stimulants. (Actually, I think that "charger" might refer to the suppositories which were used for administering the stimulants, but that's another story...)

Cheers,
