Chuck,

Some would say #G2946 would come from 1972. I believe it is actually 1971 though, as I have a Raleigh Professional in the style of the 1969 catalog (not the 1970) that has an E serial number.

I also recall having seen some information about the Raleigh-Carlton transition very recently (within the last week or two). I believe someone here had a link in their post. Try scanning for "Worksop" and I think you might find it.

Subject: [CR]Carlton Timeline Question......

Hi Folks,

I've spent some time going through the archives but I still am coming up "empty" regarding a few things: When <exactly> was Carlton purchased by Raleigh? When did Carlton STOP producing their own frames? What would be a fairly accurate idea of the production date for frame #G2946? And, what do the various letters in Carlton's serial numbers designate?

Thanking All in advance..........
