The new magazines are yielding-up some good information, and more questions. The text accompanying this image of Bordeaux-Paris reads "Changing bikes before joining the dernys". I'm guessing that in the days of limited derailleur capacities, riders used one bike for the first un-paced segment of the race, then switched to something with a bigger chainring for the last leg behind the dernys? On the right, Raymond Louviot has switched from derailleur-equipped (what kind???) bike to one with a Super Champion Osgear (or something of that ilk?). On the left, a mechanic awaits the arrival of his rider, who will switch to a single (possibly a fixed gear?). From "Miroir Sprint" No.4, 18 June 1946.
