Philip (with one L),

I was being somewhat flippant about Reg, after all he was my hero as a young lad growing up in England, and I have one of only 3 known to have been made in his factory Reg Harris track bikes, photos available if Dale ever puts them on the Reg Harris page! But there were no drug tests in his day so we will never know, and I once asked him if he ever took dope (this was after he retired and was riding the Manchester Wheelers club time trials for fun and fitness, I was also a Wheeler). Half joking he said yes, and said he had a big jar of caffeine, which at the time (1965)was not a banned substance, but is today if used in excess.

Reg, who was a superb physical specimen and still riding his bike regularly, died relatively young at 72, could his life have been shortened as a result of doping when he was younger? We will never know will we?
