Subject: [CR]of criteriums AND tire glue

The National Classic Nevada City Criterium is quite a ride, in 1979 was won by a certain blond-haired junior who lapped the senior 1&2 field twice in 44 miles. I don't care what anyone says, that race is exciting as hell. Up and down litlle gold mine town streets with grades bigger than the age of many riders it is (I think) about the toughest crit in North America, and that year kid sure did fly. I hear he won for a third time the next year, as a first year-senior, after lapping the field THREE times! Well, of course! No gear limits to threaten his development that year -smile-

Anyways, in the 1979 event my pal from high school David Leskovsky was leading out the rest...on the last lap, and was the first to make the left hand turn leading straight up some damn 20% grade to the finish...when he rolled a tire and went down, solo...and hard. Quickly passed by the chasers, he picked hisself up and ran up the hill with the bike over his shoulder and metal cleats a-slipping on the 100+ degree hot asphalt.

I don't care what anyone says, screenwriters cannot possibly compete with real life, and criteriums are a gas!
