Subject: [CR]Carlton Bike, Seeking Information

I found this Carlton bike in a Dallas, TX thrift shop. All I know about Carltons is from the pictures I've seen what I've read since. Maybe someone familiar with Carltons can tell me more about this bike. It has been suggested from the equipment on it that it may have been built up from a Carlton frame in the US. I'd like to know if it has a model name, the date of manufacture, and a guess as to the steel used. 99167 is the only number I could find. No letter prefix. Maybe I'll find some dated components when I take it apart. Nothing appears bent, rusted, or broken. Tires, brake shoes, cables, clean and lube should get it going.

CARLTON- Carlton head tube badge intact. Oval shape with man on bike design. 99167 on left rear dropout

Repainted blue, transfers or decals painted over. Blue color is close to the Lagoon Blue Team Pro photos I've seen. Fairly decent paint job.

Blumel_AFA pump with Campy fitting attached, mounted on seat tube. Carlton oval transfer remains on pump. The pump is not repainted and is original Lagoon Blue. That may have been the bike’s original color. The bike has been repainted close to that color.

Chrome lugs Resemble style seen on pics of International. Simple.

Chromed fork and flat crown with scalloped design on sides; three fingers with longer center finger. Seat stays, and chain stays, half chrome. Chromed dropouts appear not forged.

Campy High Flange Hubs with quick release, MAVIC Montlery rims, Tubular tires. Sidewalls shot so I can’t tell the brand of tire. Wheels are true, no loose spokes.

Weinmann brake levers. MAFAC ( DURAL FORGE ) brakes

2 Brake cable sheath stops brazed onto the top tube.in the 4 O’clock position facing forward

Campy shift levers, Campy Valentino front der., Suntour V LUXE rear der.

5 gears 13, 15, 17, 21, 24. Freewheel brand?? not off yet. Removal tool found in pouch.

Stronglight chainset, cranks, & bottom bracket 52-42. Leather pouch on saddle also has Stronglight removal tools.

KYOKUTO Pro Ace pedals. Brevete (France) clips

AVA stem and bars. Is this the infamous "Death Stem"?

Campy Nouvo Record seat post, Brooks B-15 saddle. Name WATKINS printed under saddle.
