On the third attempt I WILL send this contri to the correct email address. For some reason, earlier this evening the typeface on my computer reduced itself by about 66%..I could hardly read it..hence the typing mistake in the address...Better now..back up to the 1/2" mark!!!

If my mistake happens to have p****d anybody off..and it appears to have done so, please accept my apologies. Very sincerely

I think that there is little doubt that this frame is a Jack Holland, made in the UK. From recolle ction he was a builder base either in the Midlands or down London way. Mike Butler..and probably Hilary will know for certain.

The frame is almost definitely a 50s one. It has Oscar Egg "Super Champion" lugs. model SA 3 or SA4, and forged rear drop-outs without an integral gear-hanger.. The forks are typical 50s in the rake. The Oscar Egg lugs seemed to disappear sometime in the mid-50s; perhaps the importer, AS Waltho, of Manchester found that they were not as popular as Nervex..or perhaps Egg just stopped making them. I was using this exact pattern in 1953/4. They were good to work with.

The enamelling is almost certainly original, and the frame looks as though it has a few seat-tube transfers, eg YHA, reynolds, and probably the transfer of the retailer, or of "Bonderising" which was the popular anti-rust treatment that was used in those days.. The type of lining to the top-eyes looks very much in the "Liverpool School" and could possibly be the work of either C & G (still on the go) or Youngs. If that is the case the frame is more likely to be from the Midlands.

Somewhere I have a Jack Holland frame with Nervex Pro lugs, and a dented chain-stay. It seems surprising that the makers address is not on the head transfer, as I had a feeling that the transfer on my frame did give an address. I will check it out.
