Subject: [CR]Gillott gears

Hello, I am slowly ressurecting a 1952 Gillott Connoisseur. I know from the double cable guide on the right side of the bottom bracket that it would have had a Simplex double lever and one of the expensive and so unobtainable Simplex front derailleurs.I think the models are Juy 53 and 56. I've got hold of a Juy 51 for the rear which i think would be correct. I'm not sure how to set up the Juy 51. I know it uses a double cable but I'm not sure where it attaches -on the chainstay stop? if anyone has a drawing, instructions or a link to a clear photo I would be most grateful. Also, although I'm unlikely to be able to afford a correct front derailleur anytime soon, I would like to get the correct levers, or at least the correct braze-on before I get the frame re-finished. The frame came to me having had the brazed on shifter boss mostly hacked off, is the braze on for the Simplex double lever different to that for the single? and if so does anyone have one they might be able to sell me?

If any one has any pointers for other original equipment please let me know. I have a set or GB coureur brakes and a GB '531' stem and bars, also a pair of large flange Harden gear-sided hubs. I've been told that a Magistroni or Gnutti chainset with Simplex 3-6 addapters and rings would probably have been fitted originaly.

I hope one of the learned can help,

Cheers.
