I was reading Sheldon Brown's website on French bikes, and he states that the AVA stems are not safe and should be replaced. Does anyone know why they

aren't safe? Should I replace the stem on the PX-10?

I continue to be delighted with my find. I put some of the cheap tubular s from Yellow Jersey on the wheels I found in someone's trash pile last win ter, (Super Champion Arc en Ciel rims with Campy Record hubs). I've been ridi ng around town, and it has become my favorite bike for light-duty riding. I 've been cleaning and greasing bearings, and everything looks to be in great shape.

Thanks,
