Jeffery & Zeus Fans:

I have a Zeus "Criterium 78" bike with a SuperSer sticker, probably very similar to yours. I have no reason to believe that the bike isn't original. I believe this bike is from circa 1975 and was supplied with a transition component group just before the 2000 crank was available.

When I took this bike apart to clean it I was surprised to find that the criterium crank is mounted on a bottom bracket which mixes steel cups with a ti axle (later the zeus 2000 bb would have all ti components except the races).

I think the order of development in Zeus-2000 parts was: freewheel and brakes 1972, rear derailleur 1974, pedals, hubs and crank late 1975, front derailleur & shift levers 1976 (these differ only due to black paint). There was never a Zeus-2000 seatpost.

This site dipicts another criterium 78 bike, which is also missing its top and downtube stickers: http://www.superbunnys.com/__zeus2000/index.html

here is a picture of the Zeus-2000 series as of august 1975: http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/bc_stockwell_bikestuff/zeus/1975zeus/75_08aug_series2000.jpg.html

I have a lot of additional material on Zeus stuff on Wooljersey: http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/bc_stockwell_bikestuff/zeus/

Bottom line: I would guess that your bike did not come with a drilled crank.

Brad Stockwell, Zeus Fan Palo Alto I thought it was supposed to have a milled crank with drilled chain rings. The bike came with very few decals. One on the chain stay says "Criterium 78", one top tube decal says "Super Ser".. Jeffery Pyzyk Milwaukee, WI
