Subject: [CR]Re: replacement tubulars and rims

Gary Watts was asking about tubular tires and rims. For general purpose riding I use the Clement Futurox sewups that I have been selling on eBay

http://ebay.com/<blah>

many CR members have gotten these from me in the last year, both on and off- eBay. I sell these for 38.50 a pair, pre-conditioned (on clean rims) and ready to mount up. They glue up and roll true, and for some reason I have been having exceptionally good fortune with sew-ups since I moved from the San Francisco Bay area to Northern Colorado...not one flat in three years! (knock on wood)

For rims I have found a ready supply of late-70's and early-80's rims both on the bay as well as offered from time-to-time by list members, just have to keep your eyes open for when they are offered. Fiamme red labels (rectangular label) as well as all sorts of Mavic anodized rims (GP4's, 280's and 330's) Gotta be acreful to get the right labels on your rims though --smile--

Late 60's and early 70's rims are much harder to snag, but are out there and if you're diligent you can find NOS Fiamme red labels, Ambrosio Olympic, Mavic Monthlery, and Super Champion Medaille d'Or.

Certain specialty rims, like the Mavic SSCs, seem to be a bear. I gotta believe they're out there, but very pricey. I have been looking for a set of grey or blue 32 hole SSCs for about 6 months now with no luck.

GLUE actually seems to be getting harder to get! I don't have experience with the more modern glues, having always ALWAYS used Clement red, and my LBS quoted me 10 bucks a tube the last time I asked! I just got some Vittoria Mastic which I have never used before, anyone have experience with this?

Hope this helps,

Obviously Clement Seta Extras are no longer available new. What tire are folks using on their 70's-80's bikes?

Second, what rims besides Nisi are correct choices for early 80's tubular wheels?
