I usually avoid these things, just delete and move on. Looking in the archive I didn't see any actual evidence presented. For some reason I looked at the auction and something clicked in my head. I've seen bikes like this before, both here in the U.S. and in Belgium. If folks are thinking that Colnago never made a budget bike you would be wrong.

This bike would date from the late-80s to early-90s. To my eyes the tubing decal looks correct. Also the seatstay caps and rear brake bridge look right too. During the time period this bike would have been built in road bikes constituted less than 10% of the bike sales worldwide. Older established companies made EVERYTHING just to stay in the game. I've owned 2 Cinelli mountain bikes in the early 90s.

Folks need to remember that Colnago is a BIG company not some small handful of guys making frames. Colnagos are mass produced on a large assembly line by a bunch guys and some robots. If you don't believe me download the video from Mark Bulgier's site <http://bulgier.net/vids/Bike/>. On a usual work day each of the stations on that frame and fork line would have a person on it.

Sure I'd like to see some better pictures, particularly of the bottom bracket shell and seatstay caps. Right now I don't see any true evidence that the bike isn't anything other than what the auction says. One of the lessons we learn here regularly is, 'Just because you've never seen it doesn't mean it didn't exist.' If what you're familiar with is pre-'83 colnagos this does look like a strange duck. If, like me, you were working in shops during this period and saw the things these companies did to stay alive it doesn't seem so strange. best, Brandon"monkeyman"Ives Coeur d'Alene, ID.
