I too have heard this but never seen any actual evidence. Like I said I've done hundreds of tires and seen hundreds more because it's what I do for a living. Fastack when dry has always been stronger than the bond between the tire and basetape if not applied correctly. In the past I've pulled off many tires leaving the basetape on the rim, not anymore though. The reason is penetration of the glue into the basetape. If you're glue doesn't penetrate the basetape it will absorb water and this is true with ALL glues. The trick is multiple layers. The only glue that I know of that you can put a single heavy layer on and it'll penetrate all the way to the tire is the Clement red.

The glues used to attach the basetape all suck. The goal with sew-up glue is the get it all the way through the basetape to reinforce the basetape to tire bond. This is how you do it with Fastack. For a new tire at least three thin layers put on 15 minutes apart. The same can be said for a new rim. If the rim has old glue on it it's up to the wrench to decide how much to use. Now wait about an hour and put another layer on the tire and rim (in that order) and mount. Inflate the tire to 80 psi and make sure it's seated correctly. Now deflate and using the palm of your hands press the tire into the rim, HARD. Re-inflate to 120-140 psi and check again. If everything is good wait 24 hours, well 12 at least and deflate to riding pressure and go ride.

I've done this for years for folks that are pros all the way down to weekenders and never once had a problem. If the above method is used there will be no problems, period. best, Brandon"monkeywrench"Ives Coeur d'Alene, ID.

PS: Before using stupid terms like "environazis" know who you're speaking with because it only makes you look like a bigot.
