This talk about glue has brought up a memory... I remember when I thought glue was getting expensive, probably in the early 80's, so I experimented. I encountered a 3M product at a wholesale fastener company that was a contact cement made for the automotive industry. It came in a tube about twice the size of a tube of toothpaste, was yellow ochre in color, and was designed to glue weather stripping onto car doors. It may have been Fastack, but I seem to recall the number "1300" in the name. I figured since it was designed for metal to rubber it might work well on my rims. I used it and can't remember any terrible side affects. I would imagine that for the riding most of us do with these old bikes it would be just fine. I'd use it now if I had any tubs on my bikes.
