Subject: [CR]E.A.3 or 650B mystery Mavic Module 4 rims

I stumbled across what appears to be NOS MAVIC Module 4 rims of unknown size. The previous owner couldn't remember what size the are and had an English accent. The gentleman's accent may be a red herring.

Four outer diameters measured with a fiberglass tape. (1.962-, 1.970-, and 1.963-feet) Averages to 1.965-feet and converts to 599-mm. Typical depth from outer edge to bead seat is 5.5-mm. Calculated bead seat diameter is 588. I have not estimated my measurement errors, or calculated my absolute errors.

E.A.3 should be 590-mm. 650B should be 584-mm. (http://sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html)

The rims have a typical interior width of 19-mm, take presta valves, and look to have double eyelets.

There are no size markings on the rims.

I have no free E.A.3 nor 650B tires to test fit on the rims. My only E.A.3 tires are original on a Raleigh Superbe. I don't think I should disturb them.

Does anyone want to set odds to which size these rims are? English or French? I'm am quite the novice and wouldn't know if any E.A.3 rims would have been drilled for Presta valves. I can't recall ever seeing a 650B wheel or tire.

Thanks, Steve Demchak Seattle, WA
