Subject: [CR]Craigslist outing: 63cm Mike Celmins bike

In another message I just mentioned a bike I have that was apparently tweaked (in a good way!) for a prior owner by Mike Celmins, a Santa Barbara, California builder. Every once in a while I go a looking to see if there are Celmins floating out there awaiting a home. This one's just the sort, but too tall and not the bargain basement I could justify -- but nice bike! Check that Masi-esque seat cluster....

The seller claims in the ad that it's a late 1980s bike, but prior CR posts seem to indicate Celmins had dropped his building career around 1983 or earlier. Perhaps that's when it got an equipment upgrade to off-topic stuff.

No relationship with seller, etc. Here's the text:

"Rare 63cm Celmins w Henry James Lugs & Dura Ace 8 - $1000 Reply to: sale-208728843@craigslist.org Date: 2006-09-17, 9:43PM PDT

"Magnificent late 1980's Celmins road bike. 63cm seat tube, 59cm top tube, 34.75" standover height 41cm chainstays. For rider 6'3" approx. Henry James Lugs, Reynolds 531DB tubing. Dura Ace downtube shift 8 speed 7402 groupo. This classic road bike is in excellent condition. The best Celmins I've seen, & I live where they were built! Built late in Michael Celmins' career. Beautiful lugs & Imron paint, matching pump. Excellent riding bike, very stable descender, limited use. The Dura Ace SIS shifts better than same era Campy & is lighter too. Asking $1,000 today; goes on Ebay soon. Local pickup OK. I will ship UPS or FedEx anywhere in lower 48 US States for $50.00. Paypal, or M.O. please."
