Ken; I've had mixed results with Hilary, but most late shipping was a result of his taking care of a friend in Ireland who had been in ill health. But this being the case, Hilary still doesn't negate his responsibility to ship in a timely manner or with reasonable delay, if with good reason.

In general I've had very good luck with Hilary, but at one time I was not happy with condition of a pair of pedals purchased, but after contacting Hilary and to his credit, he quickly gave me full refund with return of the pedals. The biggest complaint I hear of Hilary is that he doesn't respond to emails all that quickly, but I understand this to some extent, bacause Hilary being one of the top sellers of parts in the U.K. and also a noted authority on English lightweights, I'm sure Hilary is flooded with emails and may not have time to return all letters sent.

On the good side, Hilary has held items for me for months at a time, so to accumulate a half dozen items or more that I've won on Ebay, and he packages them all together so rather than pay to ship each individual item, I save on shipping charges with all being shipped in one bulk package.

I bought a copy of High Performance Bicycles (been so long I don't really recall the title, might have been The Custom Bicycle!) 14 months ago. After three months I got in touch with him and I said I would wait somewhat longer for Royal Mail and US Mail to catch up. Last June (about 11 mo after purchase!) I tried several times to contact him and ask him to provide me with a copy of the book or a refund, and no answer. He did offer me a copy at one point, but I deferred, giving him the benefit of the doubt. I feel doubly foolish, actually. I also once (before teh book) bought a freewheel from him with "lots of miles left," and it is totally worn out in the middle cogs. Would not deal with him again, and it tends (with another cross-pond loss) to taint me against any more EU purchases.
