I was really just wondering how a chrome-moly Ashtabula crank would compare, in weight, to a good quality, steel cottered crankset. I thought that Stronlight made steel, cottered cranks at one time - but if not, I suppose you could weigh a Magistroni crankset and BB spindle for comparison.
I'm curious because it always struck me as strange that Schwinn
would use those cranks on some of their better quality frames.
On the other hand, I've wanted to put together a fixed gear
conversion using Ashtabula cranks for quite some time.
