Subject: [CR] Frejus clear blue lacquer?

For a few years during the late 1960s I had the pleasure of riding a friend's wonderful Frejus track bike.

This bike had a beautiful full chrome finish with headtube and downtube panels overlayed with a stunning blue lacquer of some sort which looked like clear mylar against the chrome.

For some reason this had never chipped or peeled off - at least not during the many thousands of road miles I had ridden on the bike. I don't recall seeing this treatment on any other bikes, either before or after. I have seen a lot of transparent lettering decals and also attempts to paint over chrome, but none were ever so successful as this.

I does anyone know of a painter or framebuilder out there who has had success with this type of finish. I would love to reproduce this effect either on some future refurbishing project, or perhaps even on a brand new custom frameset. It is a look one never forgets.

Does anyone know about this process? And, why was this never used on other framesets?
