Ebay works well if you describe the item well, photograph it well, and if you are a seller with some good feedback. You should have feedback built up at least as a buyer over time so folks know you are for real. Better yet, list your phone number in the ad and tell folks you will chat and/or take photos on demand if necessary. That is pretty strong evidence that you aren't a fake seller in Nigeria who stole the auction images.

If you have never packaged a bike before, it is actually not easy. You can do it poorly and be lucky and get away with it, but packaging right is difficult. Bring up the archives and study comments of packaging. And most shops are great at taking bikes out of a box and lousy at putting them into one. But I said most - there are many that do a great job - you need to find one. And those UPS stores can really stink up a bike packaging job from what I've seen.

And have you considered just trying the CR list to sell it first? I've sold a pile of stuff this week here, to good folks, and avoided the ebay hassle. For the truely rare one of a kind item an auction is the best way to go if you want top dollar. But for more common items, folks would rather deal with a real human and may actually pay a tad more for a pleasant interaction unlike the often faceless ebay.
