Hi All, Just a note to say that the mystery Phillips belongs to Mike Swantak (Velographics), and not me. Definitely not your Father's Phillips (or maybe it was). Since this subject wasn't aired on CR I though I had better give a bit of background as follows:

1. Mike answers a Craiglist posting in the Bay Area for a freebie Phillips, expecting a gas pipe type. Instead standing there was this gorgeous bike with Phillips headbadge and transfers, chrome head lugs, etc.

2. Mike mentioned the above to me over the phone after I called re. some decals. Turns out the bike was originally sold in the sixties by Han Ohrt's Beverly Hills bike shop. The Owner Mike got it from was the second Owner.

3. Mike had had no luck in getting information on the bike.

4. I did some research, and based on the fact that Carlton made Sun bikes for a while after the merger between TI (Sun, Phillips, etc) and Raleigh I concluded that it could very well have been made by Carlton, particularly with the chrome lugwork.

5. Shortly after I got in my 10 cents worth in Mike found a piece of paper with a Carlton heading that gave painting instructions (ignored) for the Phillips panelling "per the catalog".

6. In the mean time Mike had contacted Jerry Mortimore the V-CC Marque Enthusiast for Carlton who got in contact with a former Carlton employee who confirmed that they had made a few Phillips bikes.

An interesting trail or trial, score one for the internet.
