David, below is a link to the earliest crown that I have seen, Jay Van de Velde's 73 - flat, chromed, with a heart:

I think that Types A and B are the same crown, with paint or chrome beign the only difference. I think the chrome finish was earlier than the painted one, but for some time in the mid 80's, I believe De Rosa's could come with either one.

I think Type C was used originally on the aerodynamic De Rosa frame from the mid 80's. I suspect Type D is the latest of all, but I don't know when they started using it.
